During the Plenary on Wednesday, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas Announced the Resignation of Femi Gbajabiamila, Reading his letter of Resignation to the House.
Following the Resignation, Speaker Abbas declared the Seat Vacant and stated that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would Conduct a Bye-Election to fill the Vacant Position.
Gbajabiamila Resigned from his Role as the Member of the House Representing Surulere 1 Federal Constituency of Lagos State and as the Speaker of the 9th Assembly to assume the Position of Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu.
At exactly 12.12 pm, Gbajabiamila Officially Presented his Resignation letter to Speaker Abbas.
In his letter, Gbajabiamila Expressed Gratitude to the House Members for their support throughout his tenure, particularly during his four years as Speaker.
He stated that his resignation was with mixed feelings, as he had agreed to Serve as Chief of Staff in response to President Tinubu’s Request.
The Resignation, effective from June 14, 2023, marked the end of Gbajabiamila’s Service as a Member of the 10th House of Representatives.
He Acknowledged the Honor of Serving in the House and thanked the People of Surulere Lagos, Nigerians, and all those who had supported him.
Gbajabiamila Congratulated Speaker Abbas on his Election and Departure.
Upon Reading the letter, Gbajabiamila received a Standing Ovation from the Members and was Escorted out of the Chamber by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu and a few other Members.
Speaker Abbas Expressed that the House would Miss Gbajabiamila and Wished him well in his New Role.
He also Officially declared the Seat for Surulere 1 Federal Constituency vacant.
