The nine surveyors who were abducted by gunmen last week have been reportedly released by their abductors on Tuesday night.

The victims were said to have been kidnapped while working at a site at Ilu Abo Community in Akure North Local Government Area of the state last week Tuesday and the abductors were also said to have demanded a sum of N100m for their release.

Following the development, hundreds of women stormed the streets of Akure, the Ondo state capital, on Tuesday, to protest against the abduction of the surveyors.

They called on the State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, to intervene.

It was gathered that the families of the victims were made to pay N20m before they were released.

A brother to the Ejemikin of Akure, High Chief Oluwole Omotayo, Pastor Ajibade Owolanke, confirmed the release of the victims to journalists in Akure.

According to Owolanke, the surveyors were freed on Tuesday night, and they were currently in Akure, although their exact location was not disclosed.

Efforts to reach the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, on the matter were unsuccessful as her telephone line was not reachable.
