Thousands of athletes from around eight local governments in Bayelsa state are set to participate in the inaugural Bayelsa State Sports Festival.
The event which is tagged ‘Prosperity Unity Games’ will feature 14 sporting events and it is due to start from March 25 to April 1.
Bayelsa State Sports Festival Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Daniel Igali said the showpiece would be a master class event.
Igali who listed the events as Athletics, Boxing, Canoeing, Chess, Judo, Football, Taekwondo, Karate, Table Tennis, Scrabble, Swimming, Para-Swimming, Draughts, Weightlifting and Wrestling stated that the opening ceremony will take place on March 26 and the closing formalities scheduled for March 31.
He stated that Bayelsa State will use the Games to prepare her athletes ahead of international competitions.
