Academic activities were momentarily disrupted at the Benson Idahosa’s University (BIU), Benin, following the death of a students of the institution, known as Bruno Chigozie Ezeonye.
Kukuruku News learnt that the final year student of Computer Science slumped and eventually died before help could come.
Sources said that the deceased is the only son and second child of his parents who hails from Anambra State and said to be based outside the Country.
It was gathered that the deceased collapsed on Monday while playing football at the legacy campus’ football pitch.
It was also gathered that help didn’t come on time as the doctors and nurses in the health facility on campus were said to be foot-dragging when they were contacted
“When they eventually responded and needed to refer him to Faith Mediplex Hospital, an affiliate of the Institution, located at Airport Road, the ambulance driver complained of lack of petrol in the ambulance”, they said
It was further gathered that the students on hearing the death of their colleague on Tuesday morning mobilized to protest after vandalizing the school’s clinic and security post but were later calmed down by the President of the University, Bishop FEB Idahosa.
However, when contacted, the institution’s Head, Communication and Brand Strategy, Temi Esonamunjor, said: “the university will make an official press statement on the situation of things.”
