As the crisis in Sudan continues to heighten, a ship carrying 1,687 civilians successfully arrived Saudi Arabia on
Wednesday.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the evacuees who are from at least 50 different Countries are so far the largest evacuation effort by the Gulf Kingdom.
The Ministry explained that the group that arrived in the Coastal City of Jeddah from Port Sudan on Wednesday was “transported by one of the kingdom’s ships, and the kingdom was keen to provide all the basic needs of Foreign Nationals in preparation for their departure.
The latest evacuation includes 13 Saudis, while the rest came from Countries across the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Asia and the Americas.
Since the fight broke out in Sudan, several Countries including Nigeria are making frantic effort to get their Nationals out of the Country as fighting between forces loyal to two rival Generals rages into a second week.
Earlier, Onimode Bandele, special duties director for Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), had assured that plan was to move about 2,650 to 2,800, including families of embassy staff.
Meanwhile, 560 Indonesian Nationals have been successfully evacuated from Sudan to Saudi Arabia, though it was not clear if all of them were on the same boat that reached Jeddah on Wednesday morning, the Indonesian Foreign Ministry revealed.
Similarly, Jakarta is moving another group of more than 300 Indonesians by land from Khartoum to Port Sudan in readiness for a second round of evacuations.
