Renowned musician and Entrepreneur, Mr Eazi, recently took center stage at the 2023 Milken Global Conference in Los Angeles to advocate for the potential of African music in driving the growth and stimulation of the regional creative economy.
During a panel discussion on “Africa: Next Frontier for the Creative Economy,” Mr. Eazi joined influential figures including Mo Abudu, CEO of EbonyLife Group; Prince Jacon Osinachi, co-founder of AfrofutureDAO; and Laolu Senbanjo, a visual artist. Together, they emphasized the transformative power of Afrobeats as the next frontier for Africa’s creative industry.
Highlighting the economic benefits, Mr. Eazi emphasized that African music not only contributes to the growth of the economy but also serves as an avenue to export African commodities and shape global culture. He firmly believes that Afrobeats play a vital role in preserving African heritage while creating opportunities for cultural exchange on a global scale.
Under the moderation of Aubrey Hruby, co-founder of Tofino Capital, the panel discussed various aspects of the African Creative industry and its potential for future development.
Closing his segment of the discussion, Mr. Eazi shed light on the challenges faced by the African music industry, particularly regarding equity participation in terms of investment and infrastructure. Recognizing the importance of intellectual property, he encouraged emerging African artists to view themselves as startups and invest more in protecting and monetizing their intellectual creations.
In line with his commitment to promoting African music, Mr. Eazi recently established the Pan-African music group called Choplife Soundsystem. This initiative aims to infuse modern African elements into the traditional sound system culture. Inspired by the success of his Ghanaian holiday party, Detty Rave, Mr. Eazi embarked on a journey with the Choplife Soundsystem to bring the vibrant spirit of African music to different parts of the world. The group has already hosted events in Cotonou, Benin; Stockholm, Sweden; and Kigali, Rwanda, while releasing their first official single titled “Wena.”
