
The Federal Government Has announced Plans to overhaul its Migration and Visa Policies to simplify the procedures for Nigerians both at Home and Abroad.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made this revelation during a visit from the Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa.
Tunji-Ojo emphasized the need to address the Disparities in current Migration and Visa Policies, which have Inadvertently led to Nigeria being perceived as a receptacle for various Influxes.
The proposed review will Prioritize the principle of reciprocity in alignment with Global norms.
The Minister further acknowledged the challenges associated with Passport processing, data capture, and retrieval, assuring that the Ministry is committed to streamlining these processes to enhance efficiency.
In a related development, Tunji-Ojo, in a statement released through Spokesperson Ajibola Afonja, revealed ongoing discussions with the Nigeria Salaries and Wages Commission to elevate the Salaries of Paramilitary Officers, bringing them in line with their counterparts in the Nigeria Police Force.
Furthermore, he disclosed the Government’s contemplation of establishing a Pension Board for Personnel in the Nigerian Immigration Service, Federal Fire Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Nigerian Correctional Service, similar to the arrangement for Military Personnel.
According to him, the dedicated Officers deserve Improved remuneration and a structured Pension Scheme considering the risks associated with their duties.
