During a recent Interview on the Bootleg Kev Podcast, Nigerian Megastar Davido shared his thoughts on the influence of Canadian Superstar Drake on the Genre of Afrobeats.
When asked about Drake’s Impact, Davido made it clear that Afrobeats was already a significant Genre before Drake’s Involvement.
According to the Podcast Host, Drake can elevate any Genre he touches, and his decision to Incorporate Afrobeats elements helped popularize the Genre Globally.
While acknowledging Drake’s Megastar status and the attention he brought to Afrobeats, Davido emphasized that Afrobeats had already earned substantial Recognition.
Davido stated, “Afrobeats was huge before Drake.” He also acknowledged Drake’s role in shining a Spotlight on Music and contributing to its exposure.
“Drake is Drake, so I would be lying if I say he didn’t put some Spotlight on it,” Davido added.
The conversation surrounding the exportation of Afrobeats to the United States and the Involvement of various figures has been ongoing. Recently, American Music producer and Rapper Swiss Beatz claimed to have Introduced Wizkid’s Music to the US, sparking a wide reaction.
Drake notably Incorporated Afrobeats elements in his 2015 mega-hit Single ‘One Dance,’ featuring Nigerian Megastar Wizkid.
The Track went on to become the first Song to reach 1 Billion streams on Spotify.
Drake has collaborated with Afrobeats stars and Nigerian musicians, with his most recent Interaction being with Tems on Future’s ‘Wait For U,’ which won the Grammy for Best Melodic Rap Performance.
