Former Senator for Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has revealed that he narrowly escaped suspension from the Senate in 2018 after disclosing the salaries and allowances of federal lawmakers.
According to Sani, he would have faced a six-month suspension if not for the swift intervention of the then-Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and his Deputy, Ike Ekweremadu.
He shared this in a post on X (formerly Twitter) following the suspension of Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

Reflecting on the risks of speaking out, he warned that any lawmaker who “blows the whistle too loudly” would have to bear the consequences alone.
Sani wrote, “When I publicly disclosed the salaries and allowances of Senators, it nearly earned me a six-month suspension if not for divine intervention and the immediate rescue by Saraki and Ekweremadu. Just know that if you are there and you blow the whistle too loudly, you will be ‘on your own’. No senator will risk their head or neck to support you.”
