The United States Embassy in Nigeria has introduced new immigration visa processes for immigrants, effective January 1, 2025. According to the embassy, applicants with scheduled interviews will now be required to visit the Consulate General in Lagos at least twice during the process.
Key Changes to the Visa Process
- In-Person Document Review: The first visit will be for an in-person document review with a consular staff member. This review aims to ensure applicants are prepared for their visa interviews and allows them to retrieve any missing documents ahead of time, preventing delays in application processing..
- Interview with a Consular Officer*: The second visit will be for an interview with a Consular Officer, scheduled by the National Visa Center (NVC).
- Failure to complete the in-person document review before the visa interview will require rescheduling the appointment.
- The embassy’s operation in its Abuja and Lagos consulates will be handled by a new visa services provider, effective August 26, 2024, as announced on the official website and verified social media pages of the American embassy.
