The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects over an attack on police and military operatives in Enugwu-Agu Village, Oba Ofemili, Awka North Local Government Area of the state.

The attack on the operatives, reportedly carried out on April 13, 2025, also led to the burning of an Army operational vehicle at a checkpoint in the community.

In a press statement released on Tuesday, the spokesman for the command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the suspects were arrested on June 2, following a follow-up on investigation by the personnel of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu.

Ikenga said the state Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, described the attack as a test of the will of the security agencies and an attack on the soul of a nation.

He said, “Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad Awkuzu, in a diligent follow-up of investigation over an attack on police and military operatives that recorded the burning of an Army operational vehicle in Enugwu-Agu Village, Oba Ofemili, Awka North LGA, at about 9.45 am on June 2, 2025, arrested two suspects positively identified in the disturbing incident.

The two suspects – Uche Egwu ‘M’ 35 years, and Jindo Onyeka ‘M’ 32 years respectively – confessed their involvement and provided useful information on other persons involved in the act.

The disturbing incident occurred on April 13, 2025 where some armed individuals unprovokedly attacked the security operatives and some stakeholders of the community.”

The police boss commended the act of gallantry and professionalism of the security operatives in managing the situation, as no loss of life was recorded, describing the attack on the police as a grave and deliberate act to test the will of the security agencies and as an attack on the soul of a nation.

The CP charged the operatives to expand the scope of their investigation for the possible arrest of other fleeing suspects.

He further emphasised the need for collective action to protect those who safeguard the nation.
