Tragedy struck the Nigerian Senate during a Plenary Session as two individuals Collapsed.
One of them, a Ministerial Nominee from Kaduna State named Balarabe Abbas Lawal, experienced a sudden Collapse during his Screening but was successfully Revived.
However, the Tribune Newspaper Correspondent, Tijani Adeyemi, who was covering the Proceedings, also Collapsed and Tragically did not survive.
Before the Screening of the Ministerial Nominees began, Tijani Adeyemi suffered a Cardiac arrest in one of the National Assembly’s shuttle Buses.
Despite Immediate efforts to save him, he could not be Revived and was Confirmed Dead at the SGF Office.
His body was then moved to the National Assembly’s Clinic.
While Adeyemi’s body was at the National Assembly’s clinic, awaiting Evacuation for Burial according to Muslim rites, Balarabe Lawal collapsed after making his Presentation and while waiting to answer questions from Senators.
He slumped around 1:50 p.m. after Introducing himself and highlighting his achievements.
Senators rushed to save Balarabe Lawal’s life, and the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, called for Water, sugar, and Coke to assist in his Recovery.
After Initial treatment, the Senate went into a closed-door session.
Doctors from the National Assembly Clinic rushed to the Senate Chamber to revive Lawal, using equipment brought by a Journalist.
Following resuscitation, Balarabe Lawal was placed in a Corner of the Chamber where a Medical team Administered further Treatment.
It was confirmed that he Collapsed due to Exhaustion and Fatigue.
Two other Ministerial Nominees who had been Screened earlier in the day were confirmed, and the Senate continued its proceedings after Balarabe Lawal was taken for further medical attention.
In a separate tragic event, Tijani Adeyemi’s body was laid to rest at the Gudu Cemetery in line with Islamic Rites.
Senate President Ahmad Lawan and Senator Opeyemi Bamidele expressed their Condolences and Mourned the sudden death of Adeyemi, who was a respected Journalist covering the National Assembly.
Bamidele praised Adeyemi’s commitment to Journalism and his Dedication to reporting on Legislative activities.
He offered Condolences to Adeyemi’s family, the Nigerian Tribune Management and Staff, the Senate Press Corps, and the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) over the loss of the dedicated Journalist.
