President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting indefinitely to honor the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, who passed away Tuesday night.
The FEC meeting, initially scheduled for Wednesday, was rescheduled to a later date, yet to be announced, according to Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
To honor Lagbaja’s memory, Vice President Kashim Shettima led council members in observing a minute’s silence. Ministers also paid a condolence visit to President Tinubu’s official residence, as suggested by Shettima, who emphasized the importance of showing solidarity “as a family”.

President Tinubu expressed heartfelt condolences to Lagbaja’s family and the Nigerian Armed Forces, acknowledging his significant contributions to the nation. Lagbaja served as Chief of Army Staff from June 19, 2023, until his passing on November 5, 2024.
Additionally, President Tinubu ordered flags to be flown at half-staff nationwide for seven days to commemorate Lagbaja’s service and legacy.
