President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated the president-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, won 12 states, his closest rival Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic PDP, also won 12 states.
The candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Mr Peter Obi won 11 states including FCT while the candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Rabiu Kwankwaso won one state.
Tinubu polled 8, 794, 726 while Atiku garnered 6,984,520. Obi scored 6,101,533 and Kwankwaso got 1, 496, 687.
Having calculated the above, the Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, declared Tinubu president-elect.
However, in a statement signed by Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Publicity, Buhari said that Tinubu is the best person for the job.

Reacting to the results just announced, President Buhari said:
“I congratulate His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his victory. Elected by the people, he is the best person for the job. I shall now work with him and his team to ensure an orderly handover of power.
