Thousands of supporters of the New Nigeria People’s Party on Wednesday trooped out in Kano to welcome Governor Abba Yusuf, who returned from Saudi Arabia after performing the 2025 Hajj.
The governor’s aircraft, which arrived via Lagos, landed at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport around 2:50 pm.
A massive crowd received the governor and accompanied his convoy from the airport to the Government House — a journey that ordinarily took less than 30 minutes but lasted over five hours due to the turnout.

The route along Murtala Mohammed Way was filled with supporters chanting solidarity songs and waving party flags.
Yusuf, visibly elated, waved at the crowd from his motorcade, acknowledging their cheers and show of support.
Speaking to journalists, the Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dr Dahiru Hashim, described the turnout as a sign of the people’s satisfaction with the governor’s leadership.
He said, “The mammoth crowd that welcomed His Excellency today at the Airport and along his route to the Kano State Government is a testament that Kano citizens are indeed satisfied with His Excellency’s transformation and infrastructural development.
“Notable achievements of His Excellency, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf include the revival of 26 institutions that were abandoned by the previous administration, continuation of the local and foreign Kwankwasiyya scholarship scheme, upgrading 11 Primary Health Centres to general hospitals, payment of SSCE fees for 141,175 students, development of Kano State Climate Change Policy, ongoing construction of solar powered boreholes, and planting of three million seedlings among others.
“It is on this note that I joined my fellow Kano citizens in saying AKY Go Again in 2027.”
