A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State, Segun Sowunmi, has urged Nigerian children to shun distractions, harness the abundant potential within and around them, and remain focused in order to achieve greatness in life.
The 2023 PDP governorship aspirant in the state made this call in a statement issued on Tuesday to celebrate children on this year’s occasion of Children’s Day.
Sowunmi encouraged Nigerian children and children across the African continent to rise above the numerous developmental challenges and work toward building a glorious future for themselves and the black race.

He said, “I see the early signs that the future will be bright! Children of Nigeria, the African race, look up to you to tell our amazing story—our struggle, our determination, and our triumph. Therefore, I charge you to apply yourselves to things that edify.
The noise is loud, but focus is key, as many distractions target your young minds. You must hold on to the unique African culture and our traditions, for they have been passed down through generations to define who we are.
Do not see culture and tradition as static. Instead, open your minds to incremental improvements that aid your survival and the thriving of yourselves as individuals.
The collective mindset must be: ‘I am because you are.’ That way, you will be your brothers’ and sisters’ keepers.
May the owner of life be with you as you strive. I see the signs of a glorious future emerging. Have fun on this one day dedicated to you—our future.”
