The Governor of Rivers state Nyesom Wike has reportedly declared his support for the ambition of Sen Godswill Akpabio for the office of the Senate President of the 10th Senate.
On Tuesday while receiving a group of Senators-elect, known as Stability Group, in Port Harcourt, Wike said ” Akpabio supported me during my Governorship ambition. I don’t pay back good with evil.”
Wike who told the group led by its Director General, Senator Ali Ndume, that if truly we want this Country to move forward from where we are today, he saw nothing wrong in the ruling Party picking who it thinks can work with the President-elect as the Senate President of the 10th Assembly.
“This is the time for me to support him because he supported me when I wanted to be the Governor of River State,” He said.
He continued “On this Akpabio and Barau project we are together to make sure they win”.
Governor Wike said,”this is pay back time for him,” he said he will stand by him until he emerges the next Senate President.
As to how Politics are played and won in Nigeria Wike said it is normal in Politics. Power is not given on a platter, you fight for it.
He Akpabio should not be worried or disturbed with the contending forces against his aspiration.
“I am impressed that despite your endorsement by your party and the President-elect, you are still consulting your colleagues. That is the way it should be,” he said.
He hinted that their team would soon meet to take a position on Akpabio’s aspiration.
The Senate President hopeful, media team reports that Akpabio congratulated Wike for ending his tenure as the Governor of River State on a high Level.
He said Wike, had been known by Nigerians for Justice, Equity and Fairness and that he has done well for his people and Nigerians.
“History would be kind to you as you exit office in the next few days.”He said.
Kukuruku News learnt that the DG of the group, Sen Ali Ndume, was not left out as he was reported to have said that “Governor Wike was the first to buy into the Akpabio/ Barau project.”
He said Wike, is a reliable individual that is always committed to his promises.
He said they need his support at this crucial time because he is very influential in the People Democratic Party (PDP).
