In a significant development, the Federal Government, operating through the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), issued a directive to airlines currently operating at the General Aviation Terminal (GAT) of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA).
The directive was conveyed through a memo from FAAN’s Regional General Manager for Abuja Airport, Mr. Kabir Mohammed,
According to the memo, the Federal Government highlighted the need for temporary relocation of aircraft to alternate airports in light of the upcoming Presidential Inauguration ceremony scheduled for May 29, 2023.
Recognizing the high-security nature of the event, the authorities emphasized the imperative of ensuring the safety and security of all parties involved.
Consequently, it has been deemed necessary to temporarily relocate all aircraft currently parked at the GAT to alternate airports.
The memo further communicated to the airlines that they are requested to facilitate the relocation of their aircraft on or before May 22, 2023.
While acknowledging that this directive may cause some inconvenience, FAAN reiterated that the safety and security of individuals participating in the inauguration ceremony remain their utmost priority. The temporary relocation of aircraft aligns with international best practices and is deemed the most appropriate course of action.
FAAN assured the airlines that they are available to address any concerns or queries about this matter. The aim is to ensure open lines of communication and provide necessary assistance throughout the relocation process.
By issuing this directive, the Federal Government, through FAAN, demonstrates its commitment to upholding stringent security measures for the upcoming Presidential Inauguration.
The temporary relocation of aircraft from the GAT to alternate airports serves as a proactive step in safeguarding the integrity of the event while prioritizing the well-being of all involved parties.
