The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the killing of the Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in the state, Idris Sakaina, by gunmen.
The Miyyeti Allah chieftain was reportedly shot at about 10 pm on Saturday in front of his residence in the Oke Ose area of Ilorin, the state capital.
The police spokesperson in the state, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said that investigations had commenced on the incident.
“The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has commenced a full investigation. CP Victor Olaiya, psc(+) assures that the perpetrators will be brought to justice and urges the public to remain calm and provide useful information.

“Investigations are ongoing at the moment to arrest the suspects behind the dastardly act and bring them to justice. It’s an unfortunate one, but we hope to get them arrested. As I said, investigations are on to achieve this,” she said.
The police spokesperson said that no arrest had been made following the incident, adding that the reason behind the killing was yet to be unravelled at the moment. She said police are on top of the situation to get suspects behind the incident arrested and prosecuted.
Also, the Special Assistant to the Kwara State Governor on Inter-Community Relations (Fulani), Muhammed Abdullahi, confirmed the killing of the MACBAN leader in the state.
It was gathered that the assailants ambushed the Miyyeti Allah chieftain and shot him at close range before fleeing the scene, leaving him in a pool of blood.
The deceased, 32, was a former Special Assistant to the Moro Local Government Area chairman and a youth leader of the Fulani community in Kwara state.
Also in a statement by the state secretary MACBAN in the state, AbdulAzeez Muhammed, said, “With deep sorrow, we announce the tragic passing of our esteemed Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, Kwara State Chapter, Alhaji Idris Abubakar Sakaina, who was killed by unknown gunmen yesterday at his Oke Ose residence at about 10 pm prompt. He is survived by two wives and six children.”
