The Ogun State High Court in Abeokuta has dismissed a request by 16 political parties to indefinitely postpone the local government elections. The parties had claimed that the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) acted unilaterally in setting the election date without consulting them .

Court Ruling
Justice T. A. Okunsokan stated that there is no constitutional or electoral law provision requiring OGSIEC to consult political parties before fixing election dates. Additionally, the court ruled that the coincidence of the Ondo State gubernatorial election and the Ogun local government elections on the same day is not a valid reason to postpone the elections.
Election Date Upheld
The court upheld the previously announced election date, scheduled for November 16, 2024. This decision comes after OGSIEC Chairman Babatunde Osibodu announced the election timeline and procedures in August .
The elections will proceed as planned, with campaigns having commenced on August 9, 2024, and party primaries held between August 26 and September 9, 2024.
