Eleven students from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) faced Charges at the Federal High Court in Osogbo, Osun State on Monday, November 6, 2023, for their alleged participation in Internet Fraud.

The Ibadan Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned the Defendants before Justice Nathaniel Ayo-Emmanuel, presenting a range of one to six charges against them, as stated in an EFCC Press release.

The accused were identified as Perekebena Olombeni Micah, Nnekwelugo Nnaemeka, Moyosore Favour Oluwasakin, Aghwaritoma Wisdom Obaro, and Daniel Olashile Maiye, among others.

Nine Defendants faced one Count Charge each, while Micah and Obaro were presented with six count Charges.

The Students were part of a group of 69 Suspected Internet Fraudsters apprehended on November 1, 2023, in the Oduduwa Estate area of Ile-Ife, Osun State, following actionable Intelligence on their Involvement in Internet-related Fraudulent activities.

After pleading not Guilty, the Prosecution counsel, Oluwatoyin Owodunni, requested trial dates and the remand of the Defendants at a Correctional Centre.

Defense counsels for some of the Defendants presented motions for Bail applications, which were duly Served to the Prosecution.

Consequently, the Court granted Bail to Ayodeji, Adesina, Oluwasakin, Micah, Adeleye, and Okesipe, with bail amounts ranging from N2,000,000 to N3,000,000, along with specific Conditions.

The Judge adjourned the matters to November 29 and December 12, 2023, for Trial commencement and remanded the Defendants at the Ilesha Correctional Centre, Osun State, until they meet the conditions of their Bail.
