The Governors of the North Central Region Unite in Support of the President-Elect and Seek Reconsideration of National Assembly Zoning
After an extensive meeting held in Abuja, the Governors of the North Central region reached a collective decision.
The meeting, which lasted for hours and included Senators and House of Representatives members aspiring for various presiding offices in the National Assembly, aimed to address the ongoing Issue of Zoning.
In a Follow-up to a previous meeting, where Governor Yahaya Bello and Abdulfatai Abdulrazaq represented the Zone, the Governors expressed their full support for the elected Senators’ positions within the Region.
Notably, the Senators-elect from the North Central are steadfast in their demand for the Position of Deputy Senate President.
The Communique, signed by Governor Abubakar Sani Bello, Chairman of the North Central Governors Forum, highlighted the resolutions made during the meeting.
It emphasized the commitment of the North Central region to support the incoming administration of President-Elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the realization of the Renewed Hope agenda for a prosperous Nigeria.
Furthermore, the Governors discussed the released zoning structure and expressed reservations regarding the allocation of the Deputy Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives positions to a specific Geopolitical Zone.
They resolved to engage in dialogue and consultations with the President-Elect and the APC National Working Committee to appeal for a reconsideration of the zoning of the Presiding offices.
The Governors called for an amicable and inclusive zoning framework, highlighting their agreement with the aspirations of the candidates.
They appealed to all Senators and Members-elect to continue supporting the President-Elect for a smooth transition to the 10th National Assembly.
Additionally, they committed to further consultations and agreed to reconvene to review the progress made on these matters.
It is worth noting that the North Central region was the only geopolitical zone completely left out of the announced leadership positions of the 10th National Assembly.
The National Chairman of the party, Adamu, had assured that the issue would be revisited and reviewed.
