Nigerians in large numbers have queued up at the MRS petrol stations across Lagos State following a viral comparison video that Dangote fuel Iasts longer and is cheaper than that supplied by Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.

The queue was captured in a video making the rounds on social media on Tuesday.

In the video, the recorder said there was no scarcity and that the queue had surfaced because an influence did a comparison video of both fuels leading to more people coming to MRS for purchase.

Recall that a tech content creator, Olatunde Shobajo popularly known as Valor Reviews, in a viral video was seen conducting a “comparison test” with petrol he claimed to have purchased from NNPC and MRS filling station, a partnering outlet with Dangote refinery.

The influencer bought two new generators to test for the fuels.

Meanwhile, the generator with the fuel purchased from the NNPCL filling station only lasted 17 minutes, 51 seconds, while the generator powered by the fuel from the MRS station lasted for 30 minutes 51 seconds, indicating a 13-minute higher performance from Dangote’s fuel.

This action has nonetheless stirred controversy among Nigerians, with many claiming that monopoly was the essence of NNPC’s existence until Dangote broke into the market.

However, reacting to the comparison video, NNPC’s spokesperson, Olufemi Soneye, said the video contradicted itself, given that both fuels were from the Dangote refinery.

It is important to emphasize that a significant percentage of Premium Motor Spirit sold at NNPC retail stations in Lagos—where this deceptive video was created—is sourced from the Dangote Refinery, a strategic partner in promoting local production and energy security.

Dangote Refinery adheres to strict industry standards, guaranteeing the quality of petroleum products supplied to our consumers,” the NNPC declared.

The statement also said, “The NNPC Ltd strongly refutes the false and misleading allegations made in a viral video circulating online, which claims that NNPC fuel does not last.

This assertion is baseless and entirely unfounded, originating from unverified and amateur research that lacks credibility, accuracy, and professional oversight.

We will not tolerate deliberate misinformation designed to undermine our operations and mislead Nigerians.

Henceforth, NNPC Ltd will take firm legal action against individuals or groups who intentionally spread falsehoods about our brand and operations.
