The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in partnership with the Trade Union Congress (TUC) has called for better working conditions for the Nigerian worker.
The Labour groups made the demands during its Pre- May Day lectures on Friday at the Labour House, in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
In his welcome address, the chairperson, 2023 joint NLC/TUC May Day committee, Comrade Audu Titus Amba highlighted the importance of prioritizing the welfare of the Nigerian worker.
The NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero in his opening remarks said the Nigerian worker contributes significantly to the growth of the nation’s economy.
In his lecture, the guest speaker, Prof. Sam Amadi while commenting on the theme ‘Workers Rights and Socioeconomic Justice’ identified the rights of the workers and called for its enforcement within the country.
Also speaking at the event, Prof. Ataki Osama Alanana encouraged workers to clamour for a better working environment in the country.
Similarly, Chairperson of the Women Trade Union Commission, Comrade Salamatu Aliu encouraged workers to be part of the decision making policies in the nation in order to boost productivity.
The event was held in preparation for the annual global celebration of the Workers Day which is observed on every 1st of May.
