In Abidjan, Ivory Coast, today, Nigeria and the Benin Republic will clash for the third time in six months, with both teams seeking to secure their automatic spots in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
After defeating the Cheetahs 3-0 in September’s first leg at Uyo’s Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, the Super Eagles aim to cement their top position in Qualifying Group D with a win at the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny. A draw would suffice for Nigeria’s advancement.
Led by coach Austin Eguavoen, the Super Eagles boast 10 points and seek revenge for their 2-1 loss to Benin in June’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Benin Republic, with six points, needs a win to remain in contention for the second automatic spot.

Coach Gernot Rohr’s Benin Republic faces pressure, having tumbled in Kigali. A loss would jeopardize their chances, as Rwanda (five points) and Libya (one point) could overtake them.
Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong vowed to avenge the June loss. “We’re focused on securing the win.”
Rohr acknowledged Nigeria’s resurgence since June. “Repeating our June feat will be complicated, but we believe in ourselves.”
The match kicks off at 8:00 pm Nigerian time.
