The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has taken Stern action against its Staff who were caught on Video negotiating with Passengers on the Lagos-Ibadan Train Service without Issuing Tickets.
This comes in response to a Viral Video that exposed the Misconduct of certain NRC Officials.
The NRC stated X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, stating its Intention to punish the Erring Staff responsible for tarnishing the Corporation’s Image.
The Statement followed a Complaint filed by Daramola E. Adenike (@Dara4Enjoyment), who detailed how Passengers in one of the Train Coaches did not receive Official Boarding Tickets but were forced to pay in Cash to NRC Officials.
On Wednesday, the NRC Management took Immediate action by Suspending the Staff Members Involved in the Viral Video.
The Suspension was announced through a Statement Signed by NRC Spokesman Yakub Mahmood.
The statement Condemned the Misconduct of the Staff and referred to it as a Flagrant Disobedience to established Rules and a betrayal of the trust placed in NRC Workers.
The NRC assured Passengers and the Public that such behavior would not be tolerated.
The Identified erring Officers have been placed on Immediate Suspension pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation by the Management Committee.
The NRC emphasized that Disciplinary Proceedings in line with its Rules and relevant sections of the NRC General Rules and Public Service Rules would be applied to those found Guilty or connected to the Misconduct.
The NRC also urged Passengers on the Lagos-Ibadan Train Service and other Train Routes to Insist on and demand Official boarding Tickets after making Payments at designated Stations or by Booking Online.
Additionally, the NRC announced that it is Deploying an Electronic Ticketing system, which will be available on both the Lagos-Ibadan Train Service and the Warri-Itakpe Train Service (WITS) by the end of October 2023
