The Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade, Jalingo, Taraba State, has successfully dismantled a notorious kidnapping syndicate that had been terrorizing Jalingo and Lau Local Government Areas. This achievement marks another milestone in the Army’s efforts to curb criminal activities in the state.

Key Arrests and Discoveries

  • Two suspects, Ali Idi and Haruna Umar, were apprehended on October 22, 2024, during a raid on a hotel in Mayo Dassa, Jalingo.
  • A search of their mobile phones revealed incriminating evidence, including a photograph of Haruna holding an AK-47 rifle alongside an accomplice.
  • The investigation led to the gang’s primary hideout at Kona Mountain, Jalingo Local Government Area.
  • Troops launched a follow-up operation at Kona Mountain on October 23, capturing the gang leader, Dahiru Idi, also known as “Yellow.”
  • During interrogation, Dahiru confessed to a recent kidnapping operation involving three victims, from whom the gang extorted a ransom of 6 million Naira.

Impact of the Operation

This successful operation demonstrates the Nigerian Army’s commitment to combating kidnapping and other criminal activities in Taraba State. The Army has previously conducted similar operations, rescuing victims and apprehending suspects ¹. The dismantling of this kidnap syndicate is a significant victory in the fight against crime in the region.
