The Super Eagles of Nigeria are set to face Rwanda’s Amavubi on Monday in their final Group D encounter of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Having already secured a spot in Morocco 2025 and topped the group, Head Coach Augustine Eguavoen has assured fans that the team will strive for victory.
Despite the absence of key players, including goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, defender Olaoluwa Aina, and forward Ademola Lookman, Eguavoen aims to maintain the team’s unbeaten run. Lookman exited the camp on Saturday due to a knock sustained during Thursday’s match against Benin Republic.

In a press release titled “Morocco 2025: Despite Ticket in Pocket, Super Eagles Go for Victory Against Amavubi,” Eguavoen emphasized the importance of sustaining momentum ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
“We are determined to maintain our recent form and spirit as we prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers resuming in four months,” he said.
The match against Rwanda holds significance, as both teams will meet again in March 2025 during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. This encounter provides an opportunity for Nigeria to gain a psychological edge.
Coach Eguavoen remains confident in his squad’s depth, saying, “The absence of Nwabali, Aina, and Lookman will not stop our momentum. This team is built to adapt, and we have players ready to step in and deliver.”
Expected changes to the lineup include Maduka Okoye in goal, Bright Osayi-Samuel at right wingback, and Bruno Onyemaechi on the left. The center-back pairing of Captain William Troost-Ekong and Calvin Bassey will anchor the defense.
In midfield, Nigeria boasts options like Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi, and Frank Onyeka, alongside rising talents Raphael Onyedika and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru. Victor Osimhen will lead the attack, with Moses Simon, Samuel Chukwueze, and Sadiq Umar providing creative support.
Osimhen, nearing Olusegun Odegbami’s goal tally for Nigeria, expressed his eagerness to leave a mark. “This is a chance to not only win but also show our readiness for bigger challenges ahead.”
The Super Eagles’ determination reflects their broader ambition of staying competitive ahead of the World Cup qualifiers.
