The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced the launch of a phased, contactless passport renewal system, set to begin in Canada on November 1, 2024. This innovative system enables Nigerians to renew their passports online, significantly reducing the need for in-person visits to NIS offices.
Starting November 1, eligible individuals can apply to renew their international passports from the comfort of their homes without visiting any NIS office. The NIS aims to serve the Nigerian public more efficiently and create a functional system that meets global standards.
Rollout Schedule:

- November 1, 2024: Canada
- November 15, 2024: United Kingdom, United States, and Italy
- December 1, 2024: Nigeria and other global locations
To access the service, Nigerians can download the NIS mobile app on Google Play, the App Store, or the Windows Store, or visit the NIS portal. Although the app is not yet available on these platforms, it’s expected to be accessible starting November 1 for Canadians.
The phased rollout aims to enhance accessibility for Nigerians worldwide, allowing citizens to renew passports seamlessly from any location without visiting NIS offices. This development is part of the NIS’s effort to digitalize its services and improve efficiency .
