The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced a remarkable achievement, collecting N5.7 trillion in revenue as of November 12, 2024. Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi shared this milestone at the ongoing 2024 Comptroller-General of Customs Conference in Abuja, themed “Nigeria Customs Service: Engaging Traditional and New Partners with Purpose”.
Adeniyi expressed optimism about the service’s capacity to achieve more for the economy, citing strategic engagements and collaborative approaches that have yielded remarkable results across core statutory responsibilities ¹. Notably, the NCS hit its 2024 revenue target of NGN 5.07tn, collecting NGN5.079tn with over a month remaining in the fiscal year.
Trade Facilitation Achievements:
- Authorized Economic Operators Programme: Six beneficiaries carefully selected to enhance trade facilitation.
- Advance Ruling Programme: 21 requests processed to foster quicker customs decision-making on import and export cargoes.
- Time Release Study: Advancing the drive towards 24-hour cargo clearance and reduced dwell time at ports.
Adeniyi praised Operation Whirlwind, a joint initiative aimed at curbing fuel smuggling, guided by the Office of the National Security Adviser and supported by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Agency.

This achievement follows a 74% growth in revenue collection between June 2023 and May 2024, compared to the previous year, with a total revenue collection of N4.49tn ¹. The NCS has demonstrated its commitment to enhancing revenue generation and minimizing deviations from targets.
