Nigerian rapper, Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has come under heavy criticism following a recent comment he made about fornication.

On Sunday, in a terse post on X, Falz wrote, “Fornication is not a sin.”

The comment sparked outrage online, particularly among members of the religious community, with many citing biblical references to counter his claim.

While some, especially from religious groups, condemned his statement and quoted Bible verses in opposition, others defended Falz’s right to express his opinion.

A user on X, Olivia, tweeting as #Blessing_, suggested that Falz might be among “end-time celebrities” spreading false teachings.

She wrote, “1 Cor. 6:18 tells us to flee from it, as it is even a sin against one’s own body. The Bible also asks believers in 1 Cor. 5:9-11 to avoid fornicators. Galatians 5 makes it clear that God despises fornication.

God instructed us to resist all sin, but when it comes to fornication — a sin of the flesh — He asked us to flee.

I guess you guys are part of the end-time celebrities paid to spread false teachings.

Painful… I liked you.”

Another user, Fash Daddy, tweeting as #thefashygram, echoed the same view in repetition, “Fornication is a sin, FLEE. Fornication is a sin, FLEE. Fornication is a sin, FLEE. Fornication is a sin, FLEE.”

Another X user, Dr Penking, suggested that Falz was simply seeking attention.

He wrote, “You dey follow chase clout at your age.”

Another user, Mr Wrong But Right expressed disappointment in the rapper, saying:

I’m shocked to see this kind of tweet from a lawyer. May God have mercy.”

However, Some users sided with Falz, arguing that fornication is not considered a sin in legal or cultural contexts.

DataCraftman, tweeting as #Technnick, wrote, “Sin is for religious people, and fornication to them is a sin. Fornication is a legal act in our country. Leave sin for people wey know about am jare.”

Seunidowusings, tweeting under the same name, said, “He is right. Fornication is not a sin in the Bible — it is a Western or modern construct. In Jewish tradition, if you sleep with a woman and it’s consensual, you pay her bride price and marry her.

Exodus 22:16 says: ‘If a man seduces a virgin who is not pledged to be married and sleeps with her, he must pay the bride-price, and she shall be his wife. If her father refuses to give her to him, he must still pay the bride price for virgins.’

Apparently, two young people don’t need to marry before they have sex. Also, intending couples don’t need approval from parents, pastors, churches, or society through a wedding ceremony to have sex.”
