The Commander of Narcotics, Mr. Kabir Tsakuwa, reported that the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency’s (NDLEA) FCT Command confiscated a total of 3,988.74 kilograms of various Drugs, with an estimated street value of 80 million Naira.
The seized Drugs included cannabis Sativa, cocaine, methamphetamine, Tramadol, Rohypnol, and Diazepam.
Cannabis sativa accounted for the largest share of the Drugs seized, totaling 3,861.789 kilograms, followed by 0.038 kilograms of Cocaine.
Furthermore, the Command apprehended a total of 134 Suspected Drug traffickers and Abusers during the third quarter, with 128 males and six females among the detainees.
Out of the 134 Suspects, 104 were prosecuted, and 27 of them were Convicted.
Commander Tsakuwa emphasized that the NDLEA FCT Command employed a comprehensive strategy to tackle Drug abuse, encompassing both demand reduction and supply reduction.
The demand reduction strategy focused on preventive measures, such as extensive sensitization and Public enlightenment Campaigns through the “War Against Drug Abuse” (WADA) Initiative.
The Command collaborated with various NGOs and Stakeholders to ensure Widespread awareness and Involvement in the fight against Drug abuse.
On the other hand, the Supply reduction strategy involved rigorous Enforcement activities, including the arrest of Drug offenders, thorough Investigations, and subsequent Prosecution.
Additionally, the Command provided support systems for Individuals grappling with Drug dependency through counseling at their Rehabilitation center, tailored to the severity of the Addiction.
