This was disclosed to newsmen in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, on Thursday, by the NDLEA Jigawa State Commander, Musa Maina, while briefing journalists as part of activities to commemorate the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking.

According to Maina, the agency’s efforts to tackle drug intake and trafficking are ongoing and yielding significant results.
The commander revealed that a total of 1,300 kilograms of illicit drugs had been seized from April 2025 to date.
He therefore expressed gratitude to agencies, groups, National Youth Service Corps members, and students who participated in the command’s activities, revealing that “Their support is crucial in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking.”
The commander reiterated the agency’s determination to continue fighting against drug abuse and trafficking in Jigawa State. He assured the public that the agency would remain vigilant in its efforts to curb the menace.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Committee on Drug Abuse and Control in the State, Khadi Bashir Birnin-Kudu, highlighted the importance of the event, saying that it aimed to enlighten the public about the dangers of drug abuse.
Khadi Bashir then urged the general public to desist from drug abuse and sale for their betterment, emphasising that “The consequences of drug abuse are severe and can ruin lives.”
He disclosed that the public’s support is essential in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking. “By working together, the government and citizens can create a safer and healthier environment for everyone,” Khadi added.
The chairman also pointed out that the NDLEA Jigawa State Command’s efforts are a step in the right direction, and it is hoped that their initiatives will yield long-term benefits for the state and its people.
KUKURUKU Online reports that as part of the commemoration activities, the NDLEA Jigawa Command had earlier in the day conducted an enlightenment rally in Dutse metropolis, the state capital, to sensitise the public about the risks associated with drug abuse.
