Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James announced Wednesday that he’s taking a break from social media due to the prevalence of “negative takes” in US sports media.
James, who has 212 million combined followers on Instagram and X, shared a post from Rich Kleiman, Kevin Durant’s agent, criticizing the negative coverage. Kleiman wrote:
“With so much hate and negativity in the world today, it’s confusing why national sports media think the best way to cover sports is through negative takes. I find it all a waste of breath.”
James shared the post with a one-word comment: “AMEN!!” He then confirmed his social media hiatus:
“And with that said, I’ll holla at y’all! Getting off social media for the time being. Y’all take care.”
This isn’t James’ first social media break. He has previously stepped away to focus on basketball.

James hinted at his frustration with online criticism after the Lakers’ win over Utah on Tuesday. When discussing rookie Dalton Knecht’s 37-point performance, James said:
“Everybody on the internet calls me a liar all the time. They say I lie about everything. So, what am I now? I’ve been saying it.
