
The National Assembly, in Collaboration with International Oil Companies (IOCs) and the Independent Petroleum Producers Group (IPPG), held a crucial meeting in Abuja to discuss Solutions to challenges in Nigeria’s Oil And Gas Sector.
The focus was primarily on tackling Crude Oil theft, Improving security in the Niger Delta region, and resolving other persistent Issues affecting the Sector.
During the meeting, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, represented by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Upstream Petroleum, Etang Williams, expressed the Commitment of Lawmakers to address the various challenges faced by the Sector.
Akpabio emphasized the need to Increase Nigeria’s oil production to 1.8 million barrels per day.
He highlighted the recent positive Development where the Country’s Crude Oil output reached 1.35 million barrels per day in September, a 14% Increase compared to the previous month.
Akpabio noted that the sustained efforts by the Federal Government had yielded Positive results, providing hope that with effective planning and execution, Nigeria could attain its Production quota set by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
Rick Kennedy, the Chairman of the Oil Producers Trade Section (OPTS) at Chevron Nigeria Limited, stressed the Importance of Information and knowledge sharing in making informed decisions and fostering better Collaboration between the National Assembly and the Oil Industry.
