The Senate of Federal University Lokoja, Kogi State, has approved the reopening of the university with effect from Tuesday, March 11, 2025, to enable the institution to commence academic activities.

The school was closed three weeks ago following a protest staged by the students’ unions of the institution expressing their displeasure over road mishaps that killed five students of the university.

The institution was shut down to forestall the escalation of the protest by the students of the university.

In a statement issued by the Registrar and Secretary to the Council of the university, Rebecca Okojie, said the Senate has approved the reopening of the university with effect from Tuesday, March 11, 2025, and that lectures should commence with effect from Monday, March 17, 2025.

According to the registrar, the reopening of the institution followed an emergency meeting held by the Senate on Monday, March 10, 2025.

The statement further mentioned that the university authority has engaged in consultations with various stakeholders to address the challenges causing road accidents in the area.
