The Lagos State Government has Initiated the Commercial Operation of the long-anticipated Blue Line Rail Mass Transit, which was Originally conceived in 1983.
During a live Broadcast on Channels Television, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu took an Inaugural Ride from Marina to Mile-2.
This Development follows the Commissioning of the first Phase of the Train Station in Lagos by former President Muhammadu Buhari in January.
The first Phase spans 13 Kilometers from Marina to Mile 2 and is part of the 27-kilometer Rail line designed to Transport approximately 500,000 Passengers daily.
The first Phase features five stations: Marina, National Theatre, Iganmu, Alaba, and Orile station.
The Fare for a full Trip from Marina to Mile 2 will be N750, while Zonal fares, for Passengers not Traveling the entire route, will range from N400 to N500.
The Blue Line Rail Project was Initially Proposed in 1983 during the Tenure of former Lagos State Governor, the late Alhaji Lateef Jakande. However, it wasn’t until 2003, under the Administration of Bola Tinubu, that the Rail Network was Officially launched, marking a 20-year gap between Conception and Realization.
