Mrs. Bolaji Dada, the Lagos State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) restated the Government’s dedication to Empowering Rural Women, aiming to foster sustainable development and eradicate poverty in the State.
She made these remarks during an Event organized by the Ministry in Epe on Monday, in Honor of the International Day for Rural Women.
Recognizing the significant roles played by Rural Women In enhancing Agricultural productivity, ensuring Food security, and contributing to sustainable development, Dada emphasized the Importance of acknowledging the unique challenges faced by Rural Women, particularly in light of the Global Cost-of-living Crisis.
“Rural women are vital Contributors to the Global Food system, yet they still suffer from Gender Inequality, lack of access to land, and other challenges,” she stated.
“Empowering rural Women is not only a moral obligation but a crucial step towards achieving sustainable development and eradicating Poverty.”
The Commissioner highlighted the various Initiatives and Programs Implemented by WAPA to Economically empower Rural Women, including education and training, access to funds, women’s agricultural programs, as well as Technology and information access.
She emphasized that the Ministry would continue to Advocate for the representation of Rural Women in decision-making processes and promote Gender Equality through various activities across Lagos Communities.
During the event, attendees had the opportunity to undergo free Medical checkups, including screenings for Breast cancer, cervical cancer, blood pressure, and random blood sugar tests.
