The Lagos Police Command convened a meeting with key stakeholders to address the planned Protest by Public Transport Drivers in the State, scheduled for today (Monday, November 13).
In an official statement released by SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos Police Spokesperson, it was disclosed that the meeting had Representatives from the Police Command, Lagos State Government, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
Hundeyin highlighted that the meeting thoroughly examined Pertinent Issues and concerns raised by the Commercial Drivers.
“After the meeting, stakeholders reached an agreement to Collaborate in ensuring Compliance with all Traffic Laws by Transporters and curbing the excesses of Law Enforcement Officers within the State,” stated Hundeyin.
He further noted that the NURTW, on Sunday night, agreed to a larger meeting scheduled for today.
Among those present at the meeting were Deputy Commissioners of Police Waheed Ayilara (SCID), Fatai Tijani (Operations), Khan Salihu (Administration), Commander Rapid Response Squad (RRS) – CSP Yinka Egbeyemi, and Commander Taskforce – CSP Shola Jejeloye.
Other attendees included Honourable Sola Giwa, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Mr Bolaji Oreagba, General Manager of LASTMA, and representatives of NURTW Lagos Chapter led by Alhaji Sulyman Ojora (Kudeti), among others.
Hundeyin concluded the statement by assuring Lagosians that the Police Command had made adequate Deployments to prioritize their Safety and Security.
He encouraged them to carry out their lawful duties without fear of harassment or Intimidation.
