In a Strong display of Determination, the Lagos State Government has issued a stern Warning to Street Traders, particularly those Operating on Third Mainland Bridge and Eko Bridge.
On Wednesday, the government read the Riot Act, Declaring Zero Tolerance for Street Trading in these Areas.
The Permanent Secretary of the Office of Environmental Services, Gaji Omobolaji, emphasized that this Action aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E.S. Agenda, aimed at fostering a Cleaner, more Aesthetically pleasing Environment, enforcing Environmental sanitation laws, and ensuring a safer State for all Residents.
Omobolaji made it clear that those caught Engaging in Street Trading would not only face Prosecution at the Mobile Courts established by State Environmental Laws But would also have their Merchandise confiscated.
This enforcement drive against Street Traders will be continuous and Sustained, according to the Statement.
Highlighting the City’s Transformation into a smart city, Omobolaji emphasized that Lagos, as a Megacity, has no place for Street Traders.
Their presence not only Tarnishes the City’s Aesthetics but also exposes them to hazardous Situations and poses a Threat to the Security of lives and Property.
The Governor has authorized a special Task Force, in collaboration with other Security Agencies, to carry out the Enforcement of this Crackdown on Street Trading.
The Government’s firm Stance on this Matter reflects its Commitment to creating a more Organized and Orderly Urban Environment
