In a move that further weakens the Labour Party’s presence in the House of Representatives, Mr. Ajang Iliya, representing Jos South/Jos East Federal Constituency in Plateau State, has defected to the All Progressives Congress.
This development comes on the heels of a similar defection by five other Labour Party members in the House just last week. The House Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, announced Iliya’s defection during a plenary session, citing the crisis in the Labour Party’s leadership and other related issues as the reasons behind this move.

Iliya himself stated that he finds it challenging to align with the Labour Party’s stance on current issues. This defection is likely to further exacerbate the challenges faced by the Labour Party, which has been struggling to maintain its cohesion in recent times.
