The Labour Party Leadership has taken Issue with Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka’s recent Criticism of the Party regarding the outcome of the February 25 Election.
Soyinka’s comments were delivered during an Event in South Africa titled ‘The Lives of Wole Soyinka — A Dialogue.’
In response to Soyinka’s remarks, Obiora Ifoh, the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Issued a Statement in Abuja.
The statement, Titled ‘Soyinka: Statesmen are not Double-faced, not blind to the truth,’ expressed disappointment in Soyinka’s Critique and urged him to await the Supreme Court’s final Judgment on the Election results.
Ifoh also questioned why Soyinka chose to take Sides in the Election Dispute instead of Condemning Irregularities in the Electoral process and the Performance of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The Spokesperson for the Labour Party acknowledged Soyinka’s Contributions to Nigerian Literature but expressed regret that he had given in to what he referred to as the ‘Groupthink syndrome.’
He concluded by Stating that the Pursuit of a new Nigeria is a shared Aspiration that Nigerian Youths will not abandon.
This dispute arises from Soyinka’s assertion that the Labour Party was Aware of its Presidential Candidate Peter Obi finishing third in the Election but persisted in Disseminating false Information to the Public.
