The Kogi State Ministry of Education has inaugurated an Examination Misconduct, Investigation, and Disciplinary Committee to investigate the involvement of schools and individuals in the 2024 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) within the state.
The committee, chaired by Dr. Jibrin Saidu Alhaji, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, is tasked with investigating the extent of involvement of schools and persons in examination malpractice. They are also responsible for recommending appropriate punishments for those found guilty, in line with the provisions of the Kogi State Education Law and Other Matters Connected Therewith, 2020 .
Membership and Timeline
The committee comprises representatives from various government agencies, including the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Education, and West African Examination Council. They have been given one week to submit their report.
Government’s Stance
Wemi Jones, the State Commissioner for Education, emphasized that the government would fully implement the committee’s recommendations. He stressed that examination malpractice is a serious issue that affects the future of the state’s children ¹.
This move comes after the West African Examination Council de-recognized some schools and blacklisted supervisors for their involvement in aiding and abetting malpractice during the 2024 WASSCE.
