Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has approved the dissolution of the security joint inspection tables at international airports. This move aims to eliminate corrupt practices and reduce unnecessary delays for passengers, particularly during the Yuletide season.
Key Reforms
- Elimination of Joint Inspection Tables: Immediate dissolution of joint inspection tables by security agencies.
- Intelligence-Based Searches:Transition to intelligence-based searches, scanners, and individual profiling.
- *Camera-Based Passenger Observation: Development of a dedicated area for camera-based passenger observation.
Keyamo also approved the request for the Department of State Security Services and Immigration Service personnel to share counters, reducing checkpoints for outbound passengers. Additionally, Customs will relocate to the Aviation security point for money declaration.

The decision was contained in a position paper by the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Olubunmi Kuku, dated December 2nd and endorsed by the minister. The FAAN MD tagged the approved position as Operation AirClean, calling on stakeholders to cooperate and support the initiative.
