Ahead of this year’s rainy season expected to commence in May, FCT Emergency Management Agency says is set to embark on a tour of flood prone areas in the Territory.
Director General of FEMA, Abbas Idriss disclosed this in a statement by Head Public Affairs, Nkechi Isah in Abuja.
Iddris explained that the 2023 annual flood outlook by the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency, (NIHSA), puts the FCT and 178 other local governments in the country on highly probable flood-risk areas.
According to Iddris, FEMA will assess the infrastructural improvements made by the Federal Capital Development Authority,(FCDA), and other stakeholders towards preventing the impact of flooding in the FCT.
While calling on residents of the FCT to support this action and stop disposing of waste indiscriminately and also building on the waterways, Idriss noted that FCT Administration shall continue to remove any illegal structure that’s built against the Master plan.
