JUST IN] #BayelsaDecides2023: INEC Defies 12pm Results Collation Resumption

Resumption of the State Collation of the Bayelsa State Governorship election results from the remaining two local Government areas of Brass and Southern Ijaw has not yet commenced Monday.

The exercise is scheduled to take place at the State Collation Centre in the Prof Mahmood Yakubu Media Centre INEC state office, Yenagoa.

The commission had shifted the collation of results from Brass and Southern Ijaw from 7 pm on Sunday to 12 noon today, Monday.

As of Sunday, the INEC State Returning Officer for the Bayelsa State governorship polls, Prof Kuta Farouq, had presided over the collation of results from six local governments, namely, Yenagoa, Ogbia, Nembe, Ekeremor, Sagbama, and Kolokuma/Opokuma.

The incumbent governor and candidate of the PDP, Douye Diri, was in the lead with 137,909 votes from five of the six local governments, while his main challenger, Timipre Sylva of the APC, had polled 703, 503 votes, winning only Nembe Local Government Area.

The Head, Department Voter Education and Publicity INEC state office, Yenagoa, Mr Wilfred Ifogah, had announced at 7:35 pm on Sunday that the collation would continue at 12 noon today, Monday.

But as of 12:15 pm, the exercise was to resume, and INEC had yet to arrive at the centre.
