Members of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, Benue State chapter, have locked up the gates of the state High Court in Makurdi to protest the non-implementation of the new minimum wage. The union’s action follows the state government’s failure to pay the N75,000 new minimum wage to its members.
According to Jooli David, the Assistant Secretary of the union in the state, the strike is a result of the non-implementation of the new minimum wage. The union had issued a notification of indefinite strike action over the non-payment of the new minimum wage on Friday.
Interestingly, the state government had begun implementing the N75,000 new minimum wage for workers in the state from the end of November. However, the union claims that its members have not received the new minimum wage, prompting the strike action.

The union has directed all judiciary staff across Benue State to withdraw their services and stay at home until further notice. The leadership of the union is set to meet with the Head of Service to discuss the issue.
