Former President Goodluck Jonathan Urges Institute of Directors Nigeria to Transform Advocacy for Ethical Governance into Action
Former President Goodluck Jonathan delivered a powerful Message to the Institute of Directors in Nigeria (IoD), urging them to go beyond rhetoric and ensure that their Advocacy for Ethical Governance becomes a reality in the Character of its Members.
Speaking at the Institute’s 40th Anniversary Dinner held in Lagos, Jonathan emphasized the Importance of a Culture of Integrity in tackling the Governance challenges faced by the Country.
While acknowledging the IoD’s significant progress in promoting Corporate Governance in Nigeria, Jonathan stressed the need for Members to Implement Ethical Ideas in their respective positions. He emphasized that the Nation requires Individuals of Integrity in Leadership positions to bridge the trust gap between Leaders and Citizens.
Jonathan stated, “A Culture of Integrity is what is needed to address many of the challenges confronting Governance in our Country.
When Integrity is entrenched as a Culture and a corporate lifestyle in many Organizations, the problems associated with Corruption, dishonesty, poor Governance, and even Election Irregularities will be significantly addressed.”
In her welcome address, Dr. (Mrs.) Ije Jidenma, President/Chairman of Council, IoD, highlighted the Institute’s four-decade-long commitment to promoting Good Corporate Governance in Nigeria.
She emphasized that the IoD has been
Instrumental in shaping the Business landscape, setting standards for Ethical practices, and ensuring responsible and sustainable operations of Companies.
Former President Jonathan’s call for the IoD to translate their Advocacy into tangible actions serves as a reminder of the crucial role that Ethical Governance plays in the Development and progress of the Nation.
