The Association of Senior Staff of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions (ASSBIFI) has issued a directive to all bank workers to refrain from going to work due to attacks on bank branches by hoodlums across the country, which have been fueled by the current naira scarcity. In a statement signed by the association’s national president, Olusoji Oluwole, and dated February 17, ASSBIFI stated that its national secretariat has received reports of threats and attacks on the lives and properties of its members and bank branches. The association had previously warned that it might have to direct its members to stay away from work if the government and concerned security authorities did not immediately halt the attacks. The directive to stay at home was issued to all unit presidents and secretaries and will continue every day until normalcy is restored. Further directives will be given as events develop, the statement added.
