The Federal Road Safety emphasized that while road Traffic Crashes tend to Increase during this period, it doesn’t necessarily mean it will recur.
Bisi Kazeem, the Spokesperson for the FRSC, made these remarks during an Interview.
The “ember” months, Spanning from September to December, often witness a Surge in Travel across the Country, resulting in more Vehicles on the Roads.
Kazeem attributed Road Traffic crashes during these Months to night trips, driver fatigue, and excessive Speed.
He explained that Night Journeys can lead to Poor visibility, and many Drivers fail to get Adequate rest during the daytime before Embarking on these trips, which Increases the Risk of Accidents.
Additionally, Kazeem mentioned that Poor Vehicle Maintenance contributes to these Accidents, highlighting that most of the Factors responsible for Crashes during the Ember Months are Human-induced.
Regarding the mobile Courts established during the previous Ember Months, Kazeem stated that they have been an effective strategy in reducing Road Traffic Violations, including overloading, using phones while driving, and dangerous driving.
The FRSC has also increased its presence on the Highways by deploying more Patrol Vehicles, ambulances, tow trucks, and bikes to enhance visibility, ensure the prompt Removal of Obstructions, and facilitate effective Patrol Operations.
